Classic Broads Crusier- Private Sale

Maggie Jane, B244, was originally built as Judith IV, by Martham Boats of Norfolk.

She measures 34′ X 9′ and of course, was specifically designed for The Broads and importantly, to pass under Potter Heigham bridge, her air draft being only 6’1″.

After playing her full part in the hire fleet she was sold in 1984 to a private owner who looked after her until 1992, when she was resold, although that ownership only lasted until 1994, when she was brought back to Martham, where she remained until 2000, when she received a new lease of life from a new purchaser, who spent the next 6 years restoring her to her former glory. While respecting her original form, he was able to modify her to his taste. This included the 3 brass portholes on each side. She was relaunched on 12th May 2007.

We purchased her from that owner in 2009 and kept her moored at Martham , having her lifted out and stored each winter. Her bottom was routinely tar varnished prior to relaunching and usually at least a new coat of varnish, until 2013, when we decided to strip her externally, back to the mahogany and give her 9 coats of ‘Brava’ varnish, as well as complete repainting of the hull and both roofs. Consequently, we also had her name and number professionally repainted on the transom and name in capitals on each side of the bow. We also were pleased to purchase from Martham Boats, some original metal numbers and letters to screw to the bow sides on the white painted section.

Upon relaunching her in 2014 We took her to a new mooring at Richardsons in Horning, where she remains to this day, in an exclusive wet shed.

Since mooring her at Horning, she has been lifted out 3 times and has had her hull paint topped up twice, as well as her bottom inspected and tar varnished on each occasion.

More significantly, her original BMC 2.2 Diesel engine was removed in favour of a Nanni 43hp diesel, which has had filters and oil replaced annually by boatyard staff. A rev counter, incorporating an engine hour meter was sympathetically fitted at the same time. She also received 4 new domestic batteries.

At the time of writing, ( March 2019 ) the engine hours read : 277 and she has just passed her BSS.

She has been gently used, especially since her transfer to Horning and hasn’t so much as been across Breydon Water in that time.

She has webasco warm air heating, fridge, cooker, one toilet and shower, a 50 gallon fuel tank, one sink with hot and cold water, all in perfect working order.

Life jackets, boat hook, cleaning brush, ensign and staff, ropes, fenders mattresses and seat cushions are all included, as well as handmade curtains. We use two dust covers to keep her shining and these would also be included.

Her privileged mooring in the wet shed would continue, subject to Richardsons permission. Should this be granted, it will please the proud new owner to learn that a brand new roller shutter has been fitted to the shed, enabling swift and effortless mooring and leaving. There is ample room in the shed to store equipment, as well as the provision of electricity, lighting and wate
